Based in Shanghai, CHINAonline is China’s original online travel distribution platform, with direct connections to more than 60 of the country’s leading travel websites, wholesalers and tour operators.

DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann said the new partnership links DHISCO hotel suppliers to the major travel distribution sellers in China, providing them with both multilingual content and real-time information on rates and inventory.

“One of the top priorities for Western hotel companies today is finding ways to effectively tap the outbound Chinese tourism market,” Portmann said. “By giving our hotel partners a direct connection through CHINAonline, we are making it easier for them to offer inventory to the country’s top travel sellers at a time when more Chinese are looking to travel abroad.”

According to the China National Tourism Administration, China ranked first in the world for outbound tourism in the first half of 2017. And, with fewer than 10 percent of Chinese citizens currently holding passports, those numbers are expected to continue to grow.

Anson Lau, managing director of CHINAonline, said the agreement dramatically expands the inventory CHINAonline can offer its distribution partners, giving Chinese travel sellers and consumers access to natural language content and real-time rate and availability information from DHISCO’s more than 514,000 hotel partners around the world.

“This is a partnership between the largest hotel supply and demand networks in China and the United States,” said Lau. “It gives Western hotel companies a direct link to the most comprehensive distribution channels in China while also opening up global distribution to our Chinese hotel partners. As international travel to and from China continues to grow, we look forward to expanding our relationship with DHISCO and its many global partners.”

DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann said the partnership gives DHISCO’s 130-plus online travel agencies access, through the DHISCO Switch, to rate and availability information from more than 400,000 of Zumata’s hotel and vacation rental properties.

At the same time, it displays DHISCO’s hotel partner inventory to Zumata customers, including many in the fast-growing Asian travel marketplace.

Zumata, a Singapore-based company, has won numerous awards for its AI advances. Its tools help travel retailers increase sales by improving customer experiences with better imagery, content and the ability to process natural language queries in 29 languages.

Zumatapulls rates and availability from third-party sources around the globe, enabling it to offer more rooms and vacation rental rates than traditional distributors – all through a single connection and with the benefit of deep technology assisting in the mapping process, according to Zumata CEO Josh Ziegler. Zumata’s AI capabilities also allow for more customized, natural language-based searches beyond traditional queries that only return information on rates and availability.

Ziegler said the partnership enables his company to easily connect with both DHISCO’s buying and selling partners to expand the reach of Zumata’s AI-based system.

“No other company can offer us the reach of DHISCO, the world’s original and leading hospitality distribution company,” Ziegler said. “We believe this first step of collaboration provides the scale necessary for both parties to shape the industry together and take distribution to exciting new levels.”

Noting that Zumata has “created the world’s only AI-based distribution system,” Portmann said: “We are pleased to increase our inventory and capabilities as we help Zumata expand its reach through DHISCO’s simple, one-to-many switch. This partnership represents a true collaboration, allowing us to merge our complementary systems and move the hospitality industry into the future while increasing the success of our global partners.”

Zumata recently won the Digital Innovation Asia Award at the Digi.travel Thailand International Conference & Expo 2017 in Bangkok and was named one of the top 10 disruptive travel companies to watch in 2017 by the website Disruptor Daily.

DALLAS (May 3, 2017) – Two University of North Texas graduate students who turned a terabyte of raw hotel booking data into a comprehensive analysis of booking trends took DHISCO Inc.’s top prize in the second annual Big Data Challenge.

The students, who called their team Inception, also won the best overall award in judging last week at the contest, which was sponsored by DHISCO, the world’s leading hospitality distribution company, Sabre Hospitality Solutions and UNT.

Crystal Janes and Amit Malhan won $1,000 from DHISCO and $500 from UNT for turning the booking data provided by DHISCO into business intelligence about which cities and hotel amenities are the most popular. Their analysis included a breakdown of age and economics in the most popular areas as well as a map showing which amenities are most important in different price points.

“Team Inception was, without a doubt, the judges’ and audience’s favorite project,” said DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann, who handed out the prizes last week.

“The winners wowed everyone with their data approach and business recommendations, while giving everyone a laugh during their well-timed playful presentation that told the story of how they loaded the data, which data models they tried, which they chose, how they analyzed the data and, ultimately, their findings and recommendations.”

Portmann also awarded a $750 second-place prize to the students of team STAT Ship Enterprise, who wrote a program that was able to convert and load hundreds of millions of rows of data in just two hours, and a $500 third-place prize to the students of team Dream Donkey for a digital marketing analysis of bookings by members of hotel loyalty plans.

Judges included DHISCO guest judge Brad Buice, vice president of software development at Trisept Solutions, and officials from DHISCO, Sabre, UNT, Verizon Buxton and Trinity Industry.

Ninety-three students on 14 teams participated in this year’s challenge. Cash prizes were awarded separately by DHISCO, Sabre and UNT.

DHISCO joins University of North Texas to hold big data challenge

Posted: March 8, 2017

DALLAS (March 8, 2017) – Calling all geeks, hackers and data nerds! DHISCO Inc.,, the world’s leading hospitality distribution company, is teaming up with the University of North Texas to sponsor the second Big Data Challenge.

DHISCO and UNT launched the first such contest at the end of 2015, when more than 100 students on 28 teams used 14 terabytes of raw hospitality data provided by DHISCO to create next-generation tools for analyzing international travel and hotel booking trends.

This year’s challenge promises to be even bigger and better as UNT opens the competition to all of its students, with Sabre Hospitality Solutions joining DHISCO in providing data to the students.

“One of the biggest challenges of business is to determine effective, efficient ways to tap into the massive amounts of data we collect every day, then turn it into intelligent next-generation business applications,” said DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann.

“The goal of the challenge is to provide students hands-on experience that they can use to develop their own ideas for solving real business problems,” she said. “And besides being a whole lot of fun for all of us, it gives them a chance to get experience outside the classroom and present their ideas in person to executives of established technology companies.”

More than 200 students from across the university’s varied disciplines are expected to participate. The teams will choose which company’s data to mine and analyze over the course of eight weeks. The data has been scrubbed of personal and competitive information.

Portmann, officials from Sabre Hospitality Solutions, other industry experts and UNT faculty members will judge the contest, which will feature a variety of great prizes from the sponsors.

A team of computer science students won the 2015 contest, taking home $1,500 and Best in Show award for creating dashboards that showed hotel-specific rate and booking information as broader industry trends.

Other teams developed an analysis of reservations cancellations and modifications, a dashboard to determine when and where to advertise to reach specific audiences and a parsing of data that showed how group sizes impact lengths of stay.

“I was absolutely blown away by the level of response and quality of entries in the first Big Data Challenge,” Portmann said. “I can’t wait to see what an even broader field of students working on data different industries can come up with.”

DHISCO partners with booking site that pays consumer commissions

DHISCO partners with booking site that pays consumer commissions

Posted: September 12, 2016

DALLAS (Sept. 12, 2016) – Ollabout.com, a new hotel booking site that pays consumers to be their own travel agents, is partnering with DHISCO Inc., the world’s leading hospitality distribution company, to offer the most up-to-date rates and inventory at hotels around the globe, the companies announced today.

Based in Osage Beach, Missouri, Ollabout.com is a membership-based travel agency that splits the commissions paid by hotels with consumers.

As an accredited member of the International Association of Travel Agents Network, Ollabout.com’s commission and booking structures are based on the standard 10 percent model paid to traditional agencies, rather than the higher markups hotels often pay to list their properties with online travel agencies.

Because of that, members who book through Ollabout still receive all of the hotel loyalty program benefits they now get with bookings made directly with hotels, hotel brand websites and traditional travel agents as well as a 5 percent commission rebate on the cost of their rooms.

“Since the majority of travelers today act as their own travel agents by booking through apps and websites, Ollabout.com was designed to pay our members for their work,” said Michael Koretoff, Ollabout.com director of business development. “Through our new connection with the DHISCO Switch, we offer the most competitive, up-to-date information on rates and inventory for the company’s more than 110,000 hotel partners around the globe while also connecting those hotels directly to our members without additional markups and fees.”

DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann said the partnership builds on the company’s efforts to connect inventive new travel platforms to its vast inventory of hotel suppliers.

“Our main goal at DHISCO is to make hotel distribution as cost-effective as possible, for all of our partners,” Portmann said. “Ollabout.com offers our hotel partners an exciting new way to connect with the travel-booking public around the globe.”

Today, it moves more than 10 billion transactions a month for more than 110,000 hotels.

About Ollabout.com

Ollabout.com. is a membership-based travel agency developed to reward members for the work they do as their own travel agents by rebating to them half of the industry-standard 10 percent commission it collects on hotel bookings.  By operating as an IATAN accredited agency rather than an OTA, it also reduces the costs to hotels by eliminating GDS pass-through fees and manual inventory management.

SINGAPORE (June 14, 2016) -- ZUMATA, a Singapore-based hotel distribution and technology company recently accepted into IBM’s Watson project to advance artificial intelligence for personalized travel search and booking, is partnering with DHISCO, the world’s largest hospitality distribution company, to help accelerate its global expansion, the companies announced today.

ZUMATA said the partnership will help the company bring its new technology and inventory of over 500,000 hotels to travel agents and online distributors in North America and other Western markets.

“We are delighted with the opportunity to partner with this global leader in hospitality distribution,” said ZUMATA CEO Josh Ziegler. “Our partnership will mean a significant increase in distribution for our customers and increased performance for all through our artificial intelligence, or AI, powered technology.“

DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann said the alliance will help it expand into the fast-growing Asian and Pacific markets, putting inventory from its more than 100,000 hotel markets before ZUMATA’s strong network of Asia and Pacific-based travel agents and distributors while giving current DHISCO customers access to ZUMATA's network through a single connection.

The partnership also sets the stage for future collaboration in developing next-generation technologies for the travel industry.

“This partnership is an exciting win-win for DHISCO and ZUMATA,” Portmann said, “enabling both companies to scale quickly into new markets to offer the largest inventory of quality hotel rooms in every part of the world.”

“We are also, obviously, very excited about ZUMATA's work with Watson on artificial intelligence and its potential for developing next-generation solutions for natural language capabilities, machine learning to drive better search results and predictive pricing.  ZUMATA has a stellar track record. We like the problems they're tackling now and in the future.  We like the way they think."

Zumata last week was one of 12 companies accepted into IBM’s Watson Centre Marina Bay, a new business incubator and research facility in Singapore.

Watson, perhaps best known for beating humans at Jeopardy, is an advanced a computer system based on machine learning and natural language processing

Using Watson, Zumata’s new platform lets travelers search using natural language that goes way beyond the standard date and destination query.

For example, a customer might type “I need a luxury hotel in Sydney with a view of the opera house, an indoor pool and free Wifi.” Results returned will display images of the hotel view, amenities, and sentiments about the hotel from other traveler’s online reviews. The system learns with each interaction and can become more customized to each user over time.

DHISCO Announces Big Data Challenge Winners

DHISCO Announces Big Data Challenge Winners

Posted: December 10, 2015

DALLAS (Dec. 14, 2015) – In the age of big data, one of the most vexing issues for business is figuring out just how to put all that intelligence to use.

DHISCO Inc., the world’s leading hospitality distribution company, recently partnered with the Innovation Greenhouse at the University of North Texas to open part of its global database and challenge students to come up with next-generation business intelligence solutions.

The inventive proposals presented by students at the Big Data Challenge underscore the importance of DHISCO’s commitment to advancing the hospitality industry’s analysis of massive amounts of data.

A team of computer science students, called Team SQL 6, took Best in Show for digging into DHISCO’s data to see hotel-specific rate and booking information as broader industry trends.

DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann said the level of interest from the students, professors and industry leaders who helped judge the competition was exciting.

“The students were given a sandbox of raw data and challenged to make some level of intelligence out of it,” Portmann said. “I knew we would have a great time, but I have to admit I was blown away by the level of response and the quality of entries. The students’ use of sophisticated tools and the results they produced offer some valuable real-world lessons for the hospitality industry on data mining and market innovation.”

Portmann said she looks forward to continuing to collaborate with UNT and leaders across the industry to continue developing next-generation business intelligence solutions.

Joining Portmann and Michael Monticino, UNT professor and dean of the Toulouse Graduate School, to judge the final round of the competition were Dave Mitzner, TravelClick senior vice president of strategic alliances, Bob Bennett, Kalibri Labs co-founder and COO, Brant Deranger, Sabre Hospitality Solutions vice president of service delivery, and Alise Deeb, LQ Management LLC senior vice president of revenue management.

DHISCO provided the teams with 14 terabytes of hospitality data that had been scrubbed of confidential and competitive information. The teams were challenged to come up with the best ideas for turning the data into insights and using those insights to find competitive advantages.

More than 90 students on 28 teams competed, representing the finance, marketing, business, data science, hospitality management, information technology, economics and other departments.

SQL 6’s winning entry created a dashboard for each of the hotels in the database. The dashboards showed averages for each property, including weekly bookings and rates.  The team’s analysis demonstrated that people tend to book the most after 5 p.m. and within a just a couple of days prior to arrival. They also mined the data that illustrates where a given group of individuals is most likely to book.

Other presentations included an analysis of reservation cancellations and modifications, a dashboard to determine when and where to advertise to best target specific audiences and a parsing of data that showed how group sizes impact lengths of stay.

DHISCO Partners With Luxury Travel Start-up SuiteStory

DHISCO Partners With Luxury Travel Start-up SuiteStory

Posted: June 29, 2015

DALLAS (June 29, 2015) – DHISCO Inc., the world’s leading hospitality distribution company, today announced it is partnering with SuiteStory Inc., an international luxury travel start-up aimed at helping hotel companies book their high-end but often least-occupied rooms.

SuiteStory, which has offices in the U.S., Latvia and the Netherlands, plans to launch this fall using new, interactive technologies to redefine how people search, discover and book luxury suites. The site will target affluent travelers who are more attracted to the experience of a stay.

“SuiteStory is an innovative new service designed to help our hotel partners increase their revenue by booking expensive rooms that often sit empty,” said DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann. “This is a great example of our commitment to supporting new ideas and technologies that connect hoteliers with the world.”

SuiteStory CEO Dmitrii Beliakov said the concept is to increase the sale of suites within hotel chains, which on average have a 30 percent vacancy rate.Hoteliers use many of their suites for upgrades and loyalty program members, but they often lose out on revenue that could be gained by targeting the right customers.

“Hoteliers can’t sell the suites because they are very expensive and not marketed correctly to include all the important extras that usually come with a suite, including club lounge access, free drinks and snacks and late checkout,” Beliakov said. “We chose DHISCO to power our site because it offers the richest property content for the largest collection of electronically bookable hotels in the world.”

SuiteStory will have an interactive website with rich content, including images that a customer can simply click and choose their preferences. The data will be saved, and the algorithm will direct returning customers to similar properties that match their preferences.

Hotel Technology Leaders Groupize and DHISCO forge landmark partnership

Posted: March 3, 2015

Boston, MA, March 3, 2015 - Groupize and DHISCO, Inc. (Distribution Hospitality Intelligent Systems Company) today announced a partnership that teams the market-leading strengths of each company to transform direct channel bookings for small groups and meetings.

Collaboration brings automated group booking engine to over 100,000 hotels

Last month, the distribution division of Pegasus Solutions announced their acquisition and launch as a stand-alone company, under the new brand DHISCO. Groupize and DHISCO aim to spark industry change in the way organizers shop, book and manage small groups and meetings online, automating all aspects of the group business that has historically been handled offline.

Groupize CEO Charles de Gaspe Beaubien notes, “Groups are 30% of hotel industry business; the 5-25 room segment alone is a $25B market domestically. Groups are becoming a part of the distribution and revenue management functions, and our partnership with DHISCO gives us a scalable platform to integrate with over 100,000 hotels to help them capture their share of the online group market.”

The partnership will make the Groupize GBE, a multi-room and group booking engine, available to all of DHISCO’s hotel partners in March 2015. The complete solution includes a white-labeled GBE (Group Booking Engine) for the hotel website, a private group page (HUB mobile platform) for organizers to self-manage their rooms, modifications and payments, and the Pipeline Response Manager (PRM) for hotels to track and automate sales activities for groups and meetings. Now organizers of reunions, weddings, tours, sports trips, family vacations and more can shop, book and manage their small group reservations in real-time on hotel websites and their mobile devices. What once took organizers hours or days to accomplish with eRFP forms, emails and phone calls, can now be done in minutes. This in turn enables hotel sales staff to focus on larger groups and personal guest service and reduce their reliance on third party sites.

Toni Portmann, CEO of DHISCO, said of their partnership with Groupize, “As the single largest processor of electronic hotel transactions, we are excited to work with Groupize to provide a seamless solution for small to mid-size group bookings. We are proud to take a leadership role in the group segment and empower our hotel partners to automate their group bookings.”

DHISCO (dhisco.com) is the single largest processor of electronic hotel transactions, delivering advanced connectivity and distribution solutions to over 100,000 hotels worldwide—representing 300+ hotel chains in more than 200 countries. The company facilitates over eight billion shopping transactions each month and gives clients efficiency and affordability in marketing, capturing and booking reservations. DHISCO will continue to be headquartered in Dallas, Texas, with additional offices in London and Scottsdale. Toni Portmann has been appointed to serve as CEO and Executive Chairman of the Board.

The new company is the result of a recently completed recapitalization with an affiliate of H.I.G. Capital. H.I.G. is a global private equity investment firm. The new ownership will provide DHISCO with the financial backing to expand its position as the leader in hospitality distribution technology and to continue to enhance and evolve hospitality distribution solutions.

“The H.I.G. partnership allows DHISCO to realize our full potential by enabling us to deepen our existing client relationships and expand our product and services platform,”said new DHISCO CEO Toni Portmann.

Portmann was appointed CEO and Executive Chairman in November 2014. She has a strong record of successfully leading high-growth technology companies, including firms in which DHISCO’s financial partner, H.I.G. Capital has invested. DHISCO is proud to have retained a number of talented leaders in the industry, including: Mel Kemp directing IT, John Owens leading sales, Lynn Malouf heading up client relations, and Craig Barnby overseeing product development.

CEO Toni Portmann says new company will expand its dominant position in hospitality distribution technology.

Portmann adds, “Our leadership team has completed a strategic planning process and established a comprehensive set of strategic initiatives for the new company. Our vision is to ‘connect the world’ and as experts in this niche we created, we are driven to design, develop, deploy and support the best distribution solutions.”

The new brand, DHISCO, has roots from the original company’s inception 26 years ago under the name THISCO, The Hotel Industry Switch Company. When created in 1989, THISCO set the standard for a universal electronic distribution system for the hospitality industry.

“In a nod to our past:  THISCO becomes DHISCO,” said Portmann. “And as we look forward, our vision is to connect the world by leveraging our core infrastructure complemented by a set of robust applications, marketing tools, and business processes. We will be the strategic partner for global access and connectivity to our hotel partners, OTAs, global distributors and meta search site companies.
